Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit abnormal uptake and degradation of acetylated low density lipoproteins by macrophages, increased interleukin-12 secretion in response to CpG oligodeoxynucleotide administration, and increased bacterial and viral infection induced morbidity/mortality.
