Mouse x Chinese hamster (CH) somatic cell hybrids preferentially lose chromosomes (Chrs) from one species. CH E36 cells x BALB/c sarcoma CMS4 or MethA cells lose CH Chrs. Adding an X Chr from other BALB/c cell lines or embryos causes mouse Chrs to be lost. The X Chr effect defines this locus.
