Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele are viable, fertile and phenotypically normal under standard conditions but show increased mortality in response to diet-induced acute pancreatitis along with hepatic cell necrosis and inflammatory infiltration, andincreased plasma amylase and lipase levels.
