Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele are sub-viable. Heterozygotes are resistant to high-fat diet-induced obesity and hepatic steatosis and show increased energy expenditure and respiratory exchange ratios, altered hepatic lipid profiles, but maintain normal glucose levels on a high-fat diet.
